On 17 and 18 May, the HCiD annual meeting saw the HCiD Movement Reference Group (MRG) and Community of Concern (CoC) members come together to discuss good practice and procedures in addressing violence against health care. Workshop and panel-discussion topics included data collection and analysis, forming partnerships at national level, security of health-care personnel, integrating HCiD into training and HCiD working groups (HCiD “communities of action”). Action points were agreed, including a review of partnerships in HCiD (what has worked/not worked, and why) and the development of a one-page guidance document on “what to consider when engaging with key stakeholders before and after committing to HCiD resolutions and pledges”.
At the HCiD MRG meeting on 19 May, participants from 26 National Societies reflected on the project’s implementation over the last six years and reaffirmed their commitment to the HCiD initiative until 2019, and beyond. Key priorities and activities to be integrated into the HCiD MRG 2018–2019 work plan were also identified. These include: more comprehensive mapping of the contributions to the HCiD initiative by National Societies that are not MRG members; clarification of the respective roles within the Movement with regard to HCiD initiatives; and the need for HCiD MRG members to focus on mobilizing and supporting National Societies in countries where violence against health care is a critical issue.
