Safer Access: An introduction

This publication provides a condensed overview of the Safer Access emergency preparedness and development approach, with a focus on the Safer Access Framework. It summarizes the main aspects of the Framework, explains why it is an essential tool for all National Societies and gives some initial guidance on when and how to apply it.

It is a component of the Safer Access Practical Resource Pack, which contains additional materials providing more detailed descriptions and guidance, tools and examples of National Society experiences.

Safer Access: A Guide for all National Societies

This guide is designed to support National Societies in fulfilling their humanitarian mandate and roles, particularly when working in sensitive and insecure contexts including armed conflict, internal disturbances and tensions.

It is intended primarily for National Society staff and volunteers in leadership and management positions at headquarters, regional and branch levels. It is structured to give maximum information and guidance, building from the basics such as the importance of applying the Fundamental Principles, to a full understanding of the Safer Access Framework and its implementation.
