The first Safer Access simulation exercise, aimed at testing the interoperability of SAF tools (policies, strategies and procedures), was carried out by the Georgian Red Cross Society on 1 September 2016 in Tbilisi, with support from the ICRC’s Tbilisi delegation. The participants comprised representatives of the different levels of the National Society, namely governance, management, staff and volunteers, both from headquarters and selected branches. Observers from the Azerbaijan Red Crescent and Armenian Red Cross were invited in order to promote peer-to-peer learning. Movement partners from within the country and across the region, specifically the ICRC, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the Danish Red Cross and the Austrian Red Cross, were mobilized to act as evaluators in the exercise.
